I’ve been away from my blog for quite a while now, but am trying to reconnect. We are part way in to our third IVF cycle and I’m working away on an update. I happened across this little video about empathy vs. sympathy and wanted to share it in the meantime. I’ve always considered myself to be a relatively empathetic person. These last few years on the infertility roller coaster have opened my eyes to how acutely different empathy vs. sympathy feels. I would like to think this experience has and is teaching me to truly understand empathy and share it with those around me. As the video explains so simply and genuinely “Rarely can a response make something better. What makes something better is connection.”
This is such a great clip, so true.
And welcome back, wishing you so much luck for your cycle x

I haven’t seen that video in a while but it always drives home that point for me too – sympathy grates on me. Empathy is essentially compassion and much more welcome.
Wishing you all the best with your cycle!

Thanks for your thoughts! I think all of those insensitive women around you could definitely benefit from a lesson on empathy. Hugs to a beautiful mama and growing Azulito.
